Dentures are false teeth made to replace teeth you have lost. Dentures can be complete or partial. Complete dentures cover your entire upper or lower jaw. Partials replace one or a few teeth. Complete denture relies solely on the suction between denture base and oral soft tissue. The larger the surface area, the better the suction will be. Adequate remaining bone and proper thickness of the soft tissue are two major facts which influence the denture retention and stability. On the other hand, partial denture will have some retention components which will be attached to adjacent teeth.
Over the years, many improvements have been made in dentures. They are more natural looking and comfortable than they used to be. But they still may feel strange at beginning. Your dentist may want to see you often to make sure the dentures fit. Over the time, your mouth will change and your dentures may need to be adjusted, relined or replaced. Be sure to let your dentist handle these adjustments.

Frequent cleaning of the denture and maintain good oral hygiene are strongly suggested, which will help to prevent irritations to the tissue from plaque, calculus (hardened plaque), thick stain, and food particles. First, line sink with towels and fill with a few inches of water. Rinse dentures or appliances to remove any loose debris. Brush gently using a brush designed to reach all areas, with bristles not so hard as to scratch the plastic surface. Water alone or an alternative cleaning aid may be used on the brush.

Denture is made with acrylic. In order to sustain the chewing force, denture has to be made in certain thickness which may interfere speaking and eating. Also be careful with hot food or liquid since you may not sense the hot temperature right way through the denture.

Maintain clean denture also creates attractive appearance and willingness to smile that contributes to overall well-being and social acceptance.
